Teaching Philosophy
Most kids have been taught to memorize formulas in order to find an answer to a problem.
But as students get older and the math curriculum becomes more challenging, many students
get confused when they see problems they don't immediately recognize. That's because they
haven't learned how to analyze a problem and think their way through to the answer.
Although the how of a process is important, the why is even more important.
Students who only learn how to do the process usually must relearned it year after year.
The key to success in math
Using the right approach, kids can be introduced to a different way of
thinking about math. By learning how to think about a strategy instead of memorizing a
process, students will be able to analyze and solve problems that may
be presented in a different form than those they are used to.
This is
the key to success in math.
It is also the only way to prepare for the Math SAT, which tests the ability of
the student to think through the solution to a problem.
