Professional Background

Don Ross has over twenty five years of experience teaching in New York's public school system. He began his teaching career in the Ardsley School district, where he taught high school mathematics and computer programming for fifteen years.

In the right place at the right time, he decided to take a sabbatical from teaching to found Microcomputer Workshops Courseware, an award-winning pioneer in the field of educational software and later a division of CBS Interactive Publishing. He was the author of the national bestselling software series, Success with Math, which earned platinum sales status along with many accolades from teachers and students alike. As chief software architect, Don oversaw the development of over 200 educational software products.

But his love for teaching eventually won out over the business world and -- since CBS very nicely offered to step in -- Don sold the company and returned to the public schools.

For five years, he worked as District Director of Technology for North Shore Schools in Glen Head, NY. Partnering with administrators, teachers, staff and students, Don implemented a district-wide technology program which was hailed by the community as groundbreaking.

But still, the classroom beckoned him and he accepted a position in the Rye Middle School, doing what he liked best: teaching math. Two years later, he was given the status of Teacher-on-Special-Assignment and became Supervisor of Student Information Systems and Chief Information Officer of the New York State reporting system for the Rye City School District.

After retiring from the Rye Schools in June 2006, Don worked for Educational Services, a large SAT Preparation company, where he taught SAT classes at Croton Harmon High School. Don's SAT expertise includes teaching kids how to strategize and make the most of their allotted time.

For many years, Don has enjoyed helping students on a one-to-one basis in private tutoring sessions. Parents seek out Don's assistance for many reasons, whether their child is struggling to keep up with his or her understanding of math or simply wants the extra help to excel in an honors class.
